Updated version: FM26 real names fix
How do you fix the club, national team and competition names that show up wrong in FM 2020?
How to apply the fix
- Close the game, if it is open.
- Extract the contents of the download.
- Find the 2014 folder: on Windows, \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2020\data\database\db\2014\; on Mac, /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 2020/database/data/db/2014/
- Open the folder lnc and then the folder all.
- Delete all the files in there, especially these three: fake.lnc, lic_dan_swe_fra.lnc and nleague.lnc.
- Paste the folders extracted from the download ("FM20 Fix by Sortitoutsi" and "FM20 Name by FMScout") into that same folder all.
- Go 2 folders back to find the folder edt, and then go into the folder permanent.
- Delete the file "fake.edt".
- Go 2 folders back again, to the folder dbc, and delete: zebra award.dbc, zebra turin fake staff.dbc and zebra turin new.dbc.
- Go into the folder permanent and delete: brazil_kits.dbc, forbidden names.dbc, Licensing2.dbc and Licensing2_chn.dbc.
- Open the game and enjoy the real names!
Importante: the fix for Juventus and the Brazilian clubs only works in new saves.
Possible questions
Brazilian clubs show up with 3-letter names and Juventus is called Zebre in my game. How do I fix it?
Even with the names fixed in our files, the game keeps showing the 3-letter name instead of the full name. This happens because of certain dbc files that only apply when you first save the game. The same goes for Juventus. You need to start a new save after applying this fix (in full) for the Brazilian club names to be right.
I applied the fix, but I still see some wrong club names.
During career setup you will still see wrong names for three Spanish clubs, but as soon as you select your club and start playing, the names are correct.
Where is the Application Support folder on a Mac?
If you have trouble finding it: open a Finder window, press Cmd + Shift + G to open "Go to Folder", type ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 20xx and press Enter.
Don't agree with a name? You can change it.
If your view on a name isn't widely shared, the easiest thing is to change it yourself: open the fix file in a text editor like Notepad, find the name you want to change, edit it and save. The fix applies the next time you open FM20.
