There are tricks every Football Manager player knows. One of them is releasing a player from one team just to sign him right away, on a free, for another. In 2018 a club owner did exactly that, but in real life.
The English window had already closed
Evangelos Marinakis, owner of Olympiakos and Nottingham Forest (then in the Championship), wanted to strengthen the English club. The problem? The English transfer window had closed on August 9.
The solution was in-house: Panagiotis Tachtsidis, an Olympiakos midfielder. The player terminated his contract with the Greek club before the Greek window closed and, now a free agent, signed for Nottingham Forest on September 5, 2018, on a two-year deal.
Old Football Manager tricks
Who has not done it? Release, sign, done. In FM we call it being clever. In real life, apparently, too. Our version of the move looked like this:

But real life does not always follow the script: Tachtsidis never played a minute for Forest and, in December that year, he was loaned to Lecce.
How many times have you pulled this trick in your saves?
