FM26 goes virtual reality, and SI should hire this fan

Imagine watching your FM26 matches in virtual reality, as if you were in the stands or on the bench. In other words, a Reddit user did exactly that: built an app that shows the games live in VR. Still, the post by Past-Tutor-1417 reached 293 upvotes and 31 comments, and it shows a project still in development.

How FM26 in virtual reality works

The idea is simple. You play FM26 normally on your computer and, when the match kicks off, put on your VR headset and follow the game in that view. In addition, the app tracks player and ball positions 30 times a second, which makes the movement quite smooth.

For example, there are three views to choose from: a tabletop view, a view from the crowd, and the manager’s view, so you can watch the game as if you were on the touchline.

What the FM26 app does already and what is missing

For now, the app only lets you make substitutions and pause or resume the match. So the author is working on making it more interactive during the game.

The latest updates also added the real kit colours, different body types and running and shooting animations. In the author’s own words, the result is still basic, but it is taking shape.

What the community wants from FM26 in VR

Comments went in the same direction. Many people want a touchline view, to feel like the manager. Someone joked that SI should hire the author, and others asked whether the project will be open source. For now, nothing has been confirmed.

Our take on FM26 in VR

It is a personal project, but it shows what many fans have imagined for years: watching FM in virtual reality. Finally, if the app becomes interactive during matches, it could turn into a very different way of experiencing a season.
