Ever imagined hearing a commentator call the action in your FM26 matches? That's what the FM 26 Commentary Moddoes, a free mod by newbieboka, that gives a voice to highlights: goals, saves, shots off the woodwork, cards, VAR, penalties and even the trophy ceremony. And the best part for us: it already has a European Portuguese version, with its own recordings.
What it does
The mod “listens” to what is happening in the game and reacts in real time, with more than 2,500 recorded lines spread across more than 340 categories of commentary. It covers practically everything that happens in a match:
- goals, replays, shots, saves, hitting the woodwork and missed chances;
- passes, runs, crosses, corners, throw-ins and goalkeeper actions;
- tackles, clearances, fouls, cards, injuries and substitutions;
- VAR, offsides, penalties and penalty shootouts;
- half-time, restarts, added time and the final whistle, taking the score into account.
The commentary also adapts to the context: who is winning, how much time is left, late goals, comebacks, finals and cup ties. There are also introductions for the teams and the competition, and the mod even says players' surnames and the names of several clubs. Goals get reactions such as the classic “goal, but wait…” when VAR might be reviewing the play.
By default, the commentary only works during highlights. The author plays at 1.0 speed and that is the speed the mod is optimised for, so at higher speeds the experience may not be the same.
Portuguese version
There is a separate European Portuguese edition, with its own recordings and no fallback to English when a line is missing. It includes commentary for goals, replays, VAR, penalties, shootouts, half-time, full-time and trophy ceremonies, plus competition introductions and language specific to finals and cup ties.
Worth knowing: the Portuguese library is still growing and doesn't yet cover every situation in the English version. The author has said he will expand it in future updates. Pick one language at a time: don't install the English and Portuguese packages together.
How to install
Choose one of the two packages (never both).
- Close Football Manager 26.
- Extract the contents of the full package into the FM26 installation folder, the one containing fm.exe.
- Open the game once so BepInEx can initialise, then start it normally.
- Make sure you already have BepInEx 6 for FM26 installed and working.
- Extract the “PluginOnly” package into the FM26 installation folder and merge the BepInEx folders when Windows asks.
- Open the game normally.
If you already use other mods with BepInEx, option B is the right one. If Windows asks whether you want to replace files with the same name, the author says only BepInEx files will be replaced, so you can say no.
If you can't hear any commentary
- Make sure you extracted the package into the folder where fm.exe is located and that the folder BepInEx\plugins\FM26AmbientCommentary.
- Remove old copies of the FM26 Ambient Commentary plugin before installing this version.
- Remember that it only works during highlights.
- If you accidentally installed the full package on top of a BepInEx you already had, close the game, remove only the duplicated BepInEx files and reinstall the “PluginOnly” package. If you're not sure which files are yours, restore your game backup or use Steam's file verification. Never delete the fm_Data folder or your saved games.
