Updated version: The Best “Sleeping Giants” Challenges for FM 2027
Don't know which team to start with? How about a tempting challenge? See our picks below to start your career in Football Manager 2020!
F.C. ANDORRA
Segunda División B (3rd Tier): SPAIN
After winning the Catalan First Division, Kosmos Holding (company owned by FC Barcelona centre back Gerard Piqué) paid the more than 450 thousand euros needed to fill the spot left by Reus (which went bankrupt) in Spanish football's Segunda División B. So they went up from the Catalan First Division to the Segunda División B, the third highest tier in Spanish football, without going through the Tercera División. This is the ideal challenge for anyone who likes to start at the bottom and climb to the top flight!
SPORTING C.P
Liga NOS (First Division): PORTUGAL
It had to be on this list! In a title drought and with great instability around it, taking Sporting C.P back into the spotlight is the challenge any fearless manager keen to make lots of changes can take on. Back the 'homegrown kids'? Completely rebuild the squad? Simply revolutionise the team's tactical system? That's your job. Go for it!
PARIS F.C
Ligue 2 (Second Division): FRANCE
In the 2018/2019 season they came very close to reaching Ligue 1! They fell at the promotion play-off. With the PSG of the peak of its existence, there's no better challenge in France than taking Paris FC to Ligue 1 and, one day, ending the dominance of the 'petrodollars'. It will be hard, complex work, since money is something PSG never lack, but that's one more reason to take on this huge challenge and make Paris F.C. a superpower in France…and the world!
KAISERSLAUTERN
3. Liga (3rd Tier): GERMANY
After several spells in the Bundesliga, from the 2012/2013 season this historic German club began its big decline. It is currently in the German 3rd tier and needs a manager like you to rebuild it! If you like starting with historic clubs that ended up relegated, this is the ideal challenge for you! Give this club the turnaround it needs and win the Bundesliga! Fierce competition is something you won't be short of in German competitions on the road ahead to the top flight.
BOLTON
League One (3rd Tier): ENGLAND
The best and hardest challenge is left for last: Bolton Wanderers F.C. Financially bankrupt and starting in League One with a 12 point deduction, this is without doubt the most complex career start you could have! It won't be easy, but if you're a manager who likes to back young players, or to try to work 'miracles' with what you have 'at hand', here is your new favourite team! Good luck, because you'll need it.
