Next came Sporting CP, with 5 Champions Leagues to their name, and in last place on the podium, SL Benfica, who had fallen dramatically behind and were already 19 titles behind the Dragons, with only 3 trophies in Europe's top competition (1 in 260 years). <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>However, they weren't the only big teams; also in the mix were Vit\u00f3ria FC (Set\u00fabal) with 36 trophies in Portugal's top competition and 2 Champions Leagues, and Nacional da Madeira, who finished the first quarter of the simulation strongly, with 7 leagues and 1 Champions League.<\/i><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_936\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-936\" style=\"width: 725px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a title=\"Clique aqui para ampliar\" href=\"https:\/\/fmportugal.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Registos-2519.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-936\" src=\"https:\/\/fmportugal.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Registos-2519.png\" alt=\"Simula\u00e7\u00e3o de 1000 anos: Parte II - Registos\" width=\"725\" height=\"690\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-936\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">1000-Year Simulation: Part II \u2013 Records<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In <strong>2279 tradition held<\/strong>, another party at Aliados to celebrate Porto's 111th title, but that decade would see only one more celebration, dominated by Vit\u00f3ria FC with 7 trophies, and ending with a <strong>new champion, Torreense<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the title-clinching match, curiously at the Arena Jos\u00e9 Maria Pedroto, home of then-champions FC Porto, all the players followed the Torres Vedras tradition, dressed as women and humiliated the home side 4-0.<\/p>\n<p>The next day, the front pages didn't hold back in praising the feat of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carnavaldetorres.com\/p\/tradicoes\"><i>matrafonas<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_934\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-934\" style=\"width: 870px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-934 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/fmportugal.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/marafonas2018.png\" alt=\"Simula\u00e7\u00e3o de 1000 anos: Parte II - Matrafonas\" width=\"870\" height=\"445\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-934\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">1000-Year Simulation: Part II \u2013 Matrafonas<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>By 2345, the year of another title for the Torres Vedras side (after 17 podium finishes!), the <strong>first ever relegation of Sporting de Braga<\/strong> in the simulation also happened, in the year 2289.<\/p>\n<p>As for titles in that period, only the big 4 made the list of winners, but the<strong> blue-and-white lead for Sporting and Benfica had now shrunk to 4 and 5 trophies<\/strong>, respectively.<\/p>\n<h1><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"O_Descalabro_Portista\"><\/span><strong>Porto's Collapse<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>The 2337 title marked the start of a rather unhappy era for the <i>Dragons<\/i>. A run of unimpressive finishes reached its lowest point with<strong> relegation to the second division in the year 2400<\/strong>, returning immediately the following year after easily winning the second tier.<\/p>\n<p>During that period they only reached two podiums and completely missed the title train.<br \/>\nIn an early phase,<strong> Torreense took over from the <\/strong><strong><i>Dragons<\/i><\/strong><strong> in the fight for trophies,<\/strong> adding multiple titles to their trophy cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>Vit\u00f3ria FC, Odivelas and <strong>Sp. Espinho<\/strong> also tried to trouble the big Lisbon clubs, and the Espinho side even managed to leave them rattled and <strong>claimed the coveted trophy on three occasions, between 2363 and 2382<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Even before FC Porto's relegation, <strong>Belenenses<\/strong> who had never been relegated, <strong>dropped from the top flight to the second division in 2368 and to the Campeonato de Portugal in 2389<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_949\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-949\" style=\"width: 469px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a title=\"Clique aqui para ampliar\" href=\"https:\/\/fmportugal.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/4.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-949 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/fmportugal.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/4.png\" alt=\"Simula\u00e7\u00e3o de 1000 anos: Parte II - P\u00f3dios da primeira liga\" width=\"469\" height=\"809\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-949\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">1000-Year Simulation: Part II \u2013 Top-flight podiums<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h1><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Campeonato_a_dois\"><\/span><strong>A Two-Horse Title Race!<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>Not even FC Porto's return to Portugal's top division changed the picture. The <strong><i>Dragons<\/i><\/strong><strong> stayed well away from the title race<\/strong> and the resulting <strong>drop in fans attending the stadium<\/strong>led to a move to a smaller venue.<br \/>\n<strong>The 82,000-seat Arena Fernando Gomes replaced the 118,000-seat Arena Jos\u00e9 Maria Pedroto<\/strong>, the stage for so many Porto victories.<br \/>\nFrom 2383 to 2452, barring a few exceptions from Torreense and Vit\u00f3ria FC (2 titles each), it was all Benfica and Sporting, with a slight edge to the <strong><i>Reds<\/i><\/strong><strong>, who once again became the country's most decorated club<\/strong> . Alverca, Gafanha and especially Sporting de Espinho also made regular podium appearances, though that's about as far as it went.<\/p>\n<h1><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"O_pais_pintado_de_Verde_e_Branco\"><\/span><strong>The Country Painted Green and White<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>Sporting fans, mark your calendars, because from 2453 onwards it's all yours!<\/p>\n<p><strong>31 consecutive titles,<\/strong> smashed the previous record of 11 uninterrupted trophies, held by Vit\u00f3ria FC, with the <i>Set\u00fabal side<\/i> helping fulfil the long-standing wish of Bruno de Carvalho's descendants. Green became the only colour on the national flag.<br \/>\nIt would take <strong>FC Porto<\/strong> to briefly break the <i>Lions'<\/i>, <strong>hegemony, putting an end to 147 years without being crowned Portuguese champions<\/strong>. However, it was <i>short-lived<\/i>, since the <strong><i>Lions<\/i><\/strong> would come storming back, <strong>winning 32 of the following 35 championships<\/strong> and finishing this simulation with 12 consecutive titles. They celebrated their national dominance by building a <strong>135,000-capacity stadium<\/strong> in the year 2515, the biggest to date.<\/p>\n<p>Benfica, still owned by the Vieira family, despite going through the biggest drought in their history (67 years without winning the league), responded immediately by building the <strong>140,000-seat Parque de Jogos Cosme Dami\u00e3o in 2517<\/strong>, setting a new attendance record, fittingly in the clash against the <i>Green and Whites<\/i>, which they won 2-1 in December 2517.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_949-2\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-949-2\" style=\"width: 443px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a title=\"Clique aqui para ampliar\" href=\"https:\/\/fmportugal.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/verdeebranco.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-949 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/fmportugal.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/verdeebranco.png\" alt=\"Simula\u00e7\u00e3o de 1000 anos: Parte II - Dom\u00ednio do Sporting\" width=\"443\" height=\"776\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-949-2\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">1000-Year Simulation: Part II \u2013 Sporting's dominance<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tacas\"><\/span><strong>Cups <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>On the other hand, the <strong>cups<\/strong> always had <strong>a wide range of winners<\/strong>. Odivelas, Gafanha, Sporting Espinho, Alverca, Rio Ave, Belenenses, Torreense, Nacional are among those who racked up the most trophies, but Bragan\u00e7a, Benavente, Arouca, Caldas or Acad\u00e9mico de Viseu, among others, also added trophies to their names.<\/p>\n<h1><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Competicoes_Europeias\"><\/span><strong>European Competitions<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>These <strong>next 250 years were marked by a substantial drop in Portuguese teams reaching Champions League finals<\/strong>, although one would stand out so much that it ended the simulation as Europe's biggest power.<br \/>\n<strong>Only the big three would reach the final of the prestigious competition,<\/strong>with Benfica (2) and Porto (1) losing the finals they played, while the <strong><i>Lions<\/i><\/strong><strong>, would add 13 trophies to the 5 they already had<\/strong> won in the same period of the simulation, including two finals at the rival Lisbon club's ground and a derby final in 2347, won on penalties.<\/p>\n\n<p>A final that would repeat itself, with the same outcome, in the <strong>Europa League<\/strong> in 2382, again decided on penalties.<br \/>\nIn that same competition, the <strong>Portuguese presence was felt far more,<\/strong>as shown by the nearly<strong> 80 finals featuring at least one Portuguese team<\/strong>, despite an <strong>unfavourable outcome in more than 50 of them<\/strong>. However, Benfica, Sporting, Porto, Rio Ave, Vit. Set\u00fabal, Gafanha and Torreense would each win the trophy at least once. Nacional, Espinho and Odivelas, despite reaching several finals, were never able to bring the trophy home.<br \/>\nWorth highlighting are the three finals played between Torreense and Vit\u00f3ria FC, with the Set\u00fabal side always ending up on the losing side.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_966\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-966\" style=\"width: 383px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-966 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/fmportugal.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/torreense-uefa.png\" alt=\"Simula\u00e7\u00e3o de 1000 anos; Parte II - T\u00edtulos Europeus do Torreense\" width=\"383\" height=\"185\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-966\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">1000-Year Simulation: Part II: Torreense's European Titles<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<h1><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Portugal\"><\/span><strong>Portugal<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>The<strong> national team kept the same level,<\/strong> going from 2 to 4 World Cups, from 10 to 21 European Nations Leagues, 5 to 7 Olympic Games, didn't win any Confederations Cup, keeping its single title there, and added 3 European Championships to the 8 it already had.<br \/>\nAs for surprises, worth noting are the 3 European Championships and equal number of World Cups won by Scotland, 8 World Cups won by Mexico, Saudi Arabia's back-to-back World Cup wins in the 2302 and 2306 editions, the first African World Cup win, by Cameroon in 2458, and the United States' recent crowning in 2518.<\/p>\n\nBesides the 12 teams mentioned on this page, an honourable mention goes to Odivelas, for climbing up to the top flight, already with two lost Europa League finals to their name<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>12- Gafanha:<\/strong> 1 Europa League in 4 finals played, lost the European Super Cup they reached.
